Meteor Lake CPUs Reveal Promising Potential, Radeon RX 7900 GRE Enters European DIY Scene

Recent leaks surrounding Intel‘s Core Ultra 9 185H “Meteor Lake” CPU reveal a commendable multi-core performance. This performance especially shines through when compared to last-generation Core i7 chips, which it surpassed with ease. More notably, the CPU now matches “HX” class enthusiast processors, known for their higher clock speeds and significant TDPs.

Technical details showcase the CPU boasting 16 Cores comprised of 6 P-Cores, 8 E-Cores, and 2 LP E-Cores, leading to a total of 22 threads. Its frequency peaks at an impressive 5.1 GHz, with the chip accommodating a substantial 24 MB of L3 cache.

Performance metrics highlight the CPU scoring 1873 points for single-core and a whopping 13,796 points in multi-core tests. Although this demonstrates better single-core results, experts believe there’s room for advancement.

Retailer insights indicate an anticipation for the release of Intel Meteor Lake CPUs, particularly with the initial laptop designs being showcased. A focus on the mainstream platform precedes the launch of high-end Core Ultra chip designs, expected in early 2024.

AMD’s Radeon RX 7900 GRE Broadens Its Horizon

AMD‘s Radeon RX 7900 GRE GPU, earlier exclusive to system integrators, makes a prominent entrance into the European DIY market. Previously, enthusiasts keen on acquiring the GPU had to invest in an entire PC. Now, retailers in Spain and Romania have listed the GPU for purchase. Pricing varies, with the GPU marked higher than its initial MSRP. However, it remains competitively priced compared to other AMD offerings.

The RX 7900 GRE, meant to rival NVIDIA‘s GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, boasts a Navi 31 GPU with 80 RDNA 3 compute units. Notably, the GPU available in Europe comes without AMD’s traditional packaging due to bulk imports from China. Despite this, a two-year warranty is provided by some retailers.

However, the GPU’s availability remains confined. Enthusiasts outside Europe might have to wait unless third-party channels intervene.

Anticipated Meteor Lake Laptops Emerge

Retail listings featuring laptops powered by Intel Meteor Lake CPUs emerge, with Lenovo’s next-gen YOGA Pro 7 at the forefront. Despite an official launch set for the 14th of December, two laptops are already listed by a Bulgarian retailer. Both models come equipped with 32 GB of DDR5 memory and 1 TB of PCIe SSD storage.

Detailed specifications highlight the Core Ultra 7 155H offering 16-core configurations, 22 threads, and 24 MB of L3 cache. The TDP ranges between 28-35W.

The technology market remains ever-evolving, with Intel’s Meteor Lake CPUs displaying commendable promise. While Intel unveils advancements in processing power, AMD broadens its reach with its GPUs in Europe, emphasizing the dynamic nature of the industry. Both companies demonstrate the constant pursuit of innovation, and as the year-end approaches, more surprises may lie ahead.
